Oita's World Cup Stadium looks more like a prop from a Star Wars film than a football ground.
The dome-shaped construction features a fully retractable roof and is a multi-purpose stadium, holding 43,000 people for football matches.
It is located in the hills outside Oita City surrounded by the trappings of rural Japanese life.
Oita is home to Japan's largest hot springs - Beppu and Yufuin - which are now both well-developed spa resorts.
