Stuff - Stuffed
When we grow old and realise that we can't take our stuff with us, is that when we truly understand its value? This week we complete the story of Stuff as Wendy talks with retirees, 'Grey Nomads', monks and priests, and looks at the stuff we can carry through the eye of a needle.
Wendy visits an auction where a retired couple are making the move of a lifetime and auctioning all of their stuff. It's the end of an era for them and turns out to be quite an emotional day. Wendy also talks to retirement counsellors about why this time of life is such a challenge to our relationship with our material goods - especially for men who have to pack up their sheds!
June Middleton, the world's longest inhabitant of an iron lung, talks about what it was like to finally get her own room.
Monks David and Lhundrup reflect on what Buddha has to say about material wealth. Associate Professor Dr Kim Humphery gives us his views on how our attitudes on consumption have to change - and how we might, as a society, achieve this.
