FLOOD ADVICE FOR COOPER, STRZELECKI AND WARBURTON CREEKS Issued at 1:25 pm on Wednesday, 17 March 2010
1. FLOOD ADVICE : COOPER CREEK SYSTEM The Cooper Creek at Nappa Merri, Qld, is at moderate flood levels and falling with a level of 7.95 metres recorded at 6 am on 17th March. Flood waters remain above the bridge.
At the Cullyamurra Waterhole the water level was 10.29 metres at 7 am, Wednesday 17th March.
Flood levels are also falling at Innamincka. A level of 10.9 metres was reported for 7 am, Wednesday 17th March. Water continues to flow down Strzelecki Creek.
Local sources estimate the Cooper Creek headwaters to be around 120 km to the east of Innamincka.
DIAMANTINA-WARBURTON SYSTEM The Diamantina River at Birdsville is at moderate flood levels and slowly falling. A height of 8.1 metres was reported for 7 am, Wednesday 17th March.
Flood waters continue to rise along the South Australian section of the Diamantina/Warburton Creek. Flood waters have been reported to the northern extremities of Lake Eyre.
Travellers to the region are reminded to take care at all creek crossings and to seek information on road and track conditions from the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure at http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/quicklinks/northern_roads/northern.asp.
2. RIVER HEIGHT OBSERVATIONS : For the latest river heights refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/hydro/flood/qld/west.shtml The next Flood Advice will be issued by 4 pm Friday 19 March 2010.
