Stevie
Lake abandoned her proper name of Stephanie almost before she could talk and
was always a bit of a tomboy. She's tired of being 'one of the boys', but isn't
into preening like the other girls her age. So she clings to the one thing that
remains constant - her love of horses.
Stevie's parents are both busy lawyers, who are determined that their children
will also work hard for the things that they want. They'll pay for one riding
lesson a week, but Stevie must work at the barn in exchange for additional lessons.
Stevie's 'act now, think later' approach to life gets her into trouble, but when
she enters the show ring she becomes another person.
Stevie is very comfortable around boys and at the end of the
first series she had formed a friendship with Phil Marsten.
And in series 2 we see whether this blossoms into a romance or not.

Sophie Bennett plays Stevie Lake
Sophie has been appearing on TV ever since she was a baby. Recently
she starred alongside well known actors like Kirsty Allen and Shirley Maclaine
in a TV mini-series for NBC.
When Sophie first found out she'd got the part of Stevie she was
really excited about coming out to Australia and filming a series with horses.
She loves horse riding, but has a wide and diverse range of other interests as
well. "I love dancing, both modern and ballet, music, singing, playing piano,
violin and guitar but am passionate about clothes and dress design," Sophie
says.
Sophie Bennett answers your questions:
What's your dream horse?
It's more in the character of the horse... I love a character that I click with,
one that I can understand in a way.
Are you like your character?
Stevie is brave, tough and courageous... I don't tend to be as courageous as her
for some things. She hates schoolwork and I on the other hand really feel it's
important to work hard at it. I am more into fashion... though like Stevie I love
my friends to death!
What do you think you'll be doing 10 years from now?
I know I would like to be acting, or perhaps do some fashion design.

Sophie on Stevie in Series 2: "Stevie is passionate about horses and
she has an unusual fashion style. I love clothes and design, but my style wouldn't
be the same as hers. She is quite independent and so am I. Stevie is outgoing
whereas I ams a little shy at first until I get to know people."
Sophie on Stevie in Series 1: "I think Stevie is a really unique and
cool person. She likes to shop and she is an excellent rider. She's very funky.
She and I are alike in some ways. I like shopping as much as she does, but I'm
more into modern clothes, like tank tops and clothes like that. But we both adore
horses."
