In this week's Music Deli two musicians who create their own 'personal folk music' inspired by a variety of cultures. Both Australian Jenny Thomas and Czech-born Iva Bittova have mastered the skill of singing and playing their violins at the same time -- not simply as an accompaniment but more like a duet between voice and violin. They talk about their music and we hear some of it in this program.

In this week's program a musical journey together with wonderful stories from the legendary Arlo Guthrie recorded during his recent Australian tour. He's been performing his songs of protest against social injustice for more than forty years and his iconic song "Alice's Restaurant" from 1967 is still included in his concerts. Music Deli recorded his Melbourne performance in May, and half of that concert is played in this program.

This week's Music Deli focuses on performances from two fine Australian musicians. Jim Conway is a legend among Australian blues harmonica players and his new CD features live performances with various bands. Also this week, South African born Valanga Khoza in concert at the recent 'Emerge' festival in Melbourne.

Each of the three Australian performers featured in this week's program is taking their music to audiences around the world, as well as establishing impressive musical careers in Australia. Jodi Martin performs folk inspired songs; Kristin Berardi sings her owm jazz flavoured songs and jazz standards; guitarist and singer Fiona Boyes has a passion for the blues. Their performances in this Music Deli were recorded over the last eighteen months.
