We'll hear tales of some of Australia's classic band venues, some long forgotten, some still going strong, and the music that was made there. In 1997, the Buena Vista Social Club CD, recorded in Havana, was a hugely successful showcase for the delights of Cuban music and was soon followed by Wim Wenders' film about the musical phenomenon. Veteran Cuban players and singers, with their engaging presence and captivating sounds, charmed audiences the world over. Aficionado and author Reese Erlich visits Havana to seek out some musical stories of life before and after Buena Vista.

The shakuhachi is a Japanese bamboo flute and those who play it partake in a long tradition touching on philosophy, physical and mental well-being, literature, sex and spiritual practice. This edition of Into the Music, recorded at the 2008 World Shakuhachi Festival, is an insightful exploration of the instrument, with a focus on the shakuhachi's long association with Zen Buddhism.
