Tony Abbott: truancy
The federal government's plan to suspend welfare payments to parents who don't send their children to school has received a mixed reaction, even from the Coalition. The government will introduce legislation this week ahead of a trial in eight communities, mostly in the Northern Territory. But the Greens are aghast and some Labor back benchers have expressed concern in yesterday's caucus meeting. Even the Oppostion Spokesman on Indigenous Affairs has reservations.
