The Villainelles
|
'Villainelle' is a word with multiple meanings. First it's the name of an ensemble of musicians—instrumentalists and vocalists—who are described as a chamber-pop group. It's also the name of the show being performed by a group called the Villainelles. The show is a song-cycle of works by contemporary Australian poets.
Andree Greenwell is the composer and one of the singers with the Villainelles. She says the name also has to do with who the songs are about, and with their poetic form.
The Villainelles are next performing at Arts House in North Melbourne on 21 and 22 August.
