Green group says FOI proves Govt planned Baffle Creek dam

Posted June 19, 2008 12:47:00

The Wilderness Society says it has obtained documents that show the Queensland Government did extensive planning to dam a Wide Bay creek.

In February, the society lodged a freedom of information (FOI) application about planning for a dam on Baffle Creek, north of Bundaberg, after Water Minister Craig Wallace denied planning had been undertaken.

Wild Rivers campaigner Glenn Walker says an extensive discussion paper proves that was not true.

"[It] includes extensive modelling and remarks about the benefits about the dam and we've also found quite a number of email exchanges within the department about planning for a dam on the Baffle, and about modelling for a dam on the Baffle," he said.

"This is contrary to the statements we were hearing a few months ago."

Premier Anna Bligh has previously ruled out a dam on Baffle Creek.
