Ethiopia - The Endless Famine

Reporter: Andrew Geoghegan

In Ethiopia an estimated eight million people need food aid to survive as yet another famine sweeps the country.

In order to put a human face on this tragedy Africa Correspondent Andrew Geoghegan travels to Ethiopia to meet 14-year-old Tsayhnesh Degalo. He's sponsored her for most of the past decade.

Fortunately Geoghegan finds that Tsayhnesh Degalo and her family are surviving better than many. Even so he's surprised to discover virtually none of the money he donates goes directly to the family.

Best of Foreign Correspondent 2008

It's our last program for the year, and veteran Foreign Correspondent editor Garth Thomas wraps up our 17th year on air with a reminder of the events of 2008 as seen through the eyes of our reporters, camera operators and editors.

Join us again in 2009 when we'll once more do whatever it takes to find out what's really going on in the world.
