The Astonishing Ballets Russes - Program 5: From Madrid to Melbourne
In the final program in this series celebrating the centenary of the formation of the Ballets Russes, Lee Christofis, the Curator of Dance at the National Library of Australia, is joined by Dr Michael Christoforidis, Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Music. They discuss the less well-known connections between Spanish dance in early colonial Australia and the work of choreographer Leonide Massine for the Ballets Russes, including the collaboration between Massine and composer Manuel de Falla (pictured above). > more
