Haydn's Symphonies 2

In Part Two of the Keys To Music survey of Haydn's symphonies, Graham looks at ten more (nos 3, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20, 25, 33, 36 and "108"). These are thought to have been written in the early 1760s, around the time Haydn left the court of Count Morzin and started working for the Esterházy family.  > more

The Great Stravinsky Ballets 3: The Rite of Spring

Graham concludes his survey of the three Stravinsky/Diaghilev ballets of 1910-1913 with a discussion of the work which almost single-handedly shaped music in the 20th century: The Rite of Spring. The recording used will feature the Kirov Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev.  > more

Podcasts: The Music Education Series

In May 2009, Keys To Music presented four programs focusing on the importance of good musical experiences in a child's education. Graham's guest in the series was the eminent Australian conductor and music educator Richard Gill and their conversations generated an enormous response among ABC Classic FM listeners.

In Part 1 of the series Graham Abbott and Richard Gill discuss the importance of dance and movement in a child's musical experiences. In this program they are joined by Dr Micheal Giddens, a leading exponent of Dalcroze Eurhythmics.

Graham and Richard discuss the importance of singing in a child's life. They are joined by Kathryn Sadler, one of Melbourne's leading singing teachers and choir directors.

3: Instruments Download MP3 Audio (13 MB, 18'18")
In Part 3 Graham and Richard discuss why learning an instrument is good for children. They are joined by Alastair McKean, Director of Border Music Camp in Albury, NSW.

4: The Mind Download MP3 Audio (16 MB, 22' 38")
Graham and Richard conclude their discussion on the importance of Music Education for children. In this program they focus on the proven benefits of musical experiences for a child's intellectual and social development.
